Trail setup
Five areas of mountain bike trails, and four of them geographically close enough for trails to interconnect. Looks great!
Map and signage
Small-scale overview map can be downloaded for free from the www.aude-pyrenees.fr site.
Signage is international: Two wheels with an arrow on top indicating the direction. The number of the trail is in colour. Trails are rated green (very easy), blue (easy), red (difficult) and black (very difficult).
Notes
Theoretical favourites, if any, are mentioned below, for each starting point.
Please be wary, when I rode trail number 35 of Couiza in October 2011, there was a lot more climbing than is indicated on the official map.
Trail number 32 loops in the south. For a short section at the end, it overlaps (in the same direction) with trail number 33.
Trail number 33 starts out with a short double-back section, then loops in the southeast. It might be overlapping a short section (in the same direction) in the end with trail number 32.
Interconnecting trails
Within perhaps driveable distance into the west; trails of Couiza.
A loop trailing all by itself north and northeast of Bugarach.
Interconnecting trails
Within driveable distance; trails of Couiza (in the north) and trails of Quillan (in the west).

Trail number 31 starts out with what looks like a lengthy double-back section before it loops to the east. The double-back section it overlaps (in both directions) with trail number 35, then it loops east on its own, and re-joins trail number 35 (in the same direction) back into Couiza.
Trail number 35 loops around Couiza, through villages of Montazets, Antugnac, Espéraza, past Rennes-le-Château, through Rennes-les-Bains and Serres (where it hooks up with trail number 31, in the same direction) and Peyrolles. Its last bit back into Couiza it overlaps in both directions with trail number 31.

Signage was in October 2011 sufficient. I would prefer them placed a little bit more often. Wrapped around traffic poles and having lost their colours in the burning sun, it was sometimes difficult to spot them. Once spotted, it was difficult to decipher them without riding very close to them (which, in one case, lead me to fight some bushes).
Interconnecting trails
Trail number 35 loops through village of Espéraza (link to be established) where you have several other trails on offer: Trail number 4 (blue), trail number 5 (blue) and trail number 8 (red), but also downhill trail number 7 (red) of Montmija (link to be established) can be picked up from Espéraza.
