Aywaille

Aywaille, Deigne, Ernonheid, Sedoz, Sougné-Remouchamps
The commune of Aywaille is squeezed in in the middle of several other trail networks: Theux in the east,
Sprimont in the north and Ferrières in the southwest.
To be noted is that all trails seem to be sharing A LOT with official trails for horseback riders. Surely this is not ideal, for either group of trail users???
Map and signage
A map with a of scale 1:25,000 is available. Trail directions are not indicated.
Aywaille
Maybe a quarter of trail number 35 is overlapped by trail number 42. Trail number 39 overlaps the eastern part of trail number 41, which otherwise loops on its own west of Aywaille. Trail number 40 starts out with a lengthy double-back section before it loops far south, overlapping almost half of the distance of trail number 39. Trail number 42 loops north of Aywaille. It overlaps a section in the east with trail number 35.
Trail 35 is the circuit used for the European Championship in 1998.
Interconnecting trails
Trail number 36 (red) of Sougné-Remouchamps loops through Aywaille and can thus be easily combined with the trails here: It overlaps in particular with the southern part of trail number 35 as well as with trail number 40. Trail number 35 overlaps a section in the east with trail number 34 (green) of Sougné-Remouchamps. Trail number 40 overlaps in the south with trail number 44 (red) of Ernonheid.
Red trail of
Sprimont loops all the way down to Aywaille and can thus be easily combined with any of the trails of Aywaille. Trail number 42 can also be combined in the north with green trail of
Sprimont.
Furthermore, trail 39 is rumoured to be combinable with trails of Ferrières, trail 40 with trails of Stoumont (page under construction) and trail 41 with trails of Comblain-au-Pont (page under construction).
These two trails together form the shape of an eight. Trail number 34 loops in the north, trail number 36 in the south. About a third of the southern part of trail number 34 is covered by trail number 36.
Interconnecting trails
Trail number 34 overlaps in the north with trail number 33 (yellow) of Deigne. Trail number 36 overlaps in the southeast with trail number 37 (yellow) of Sedoz. As trail number 36 loops through Aywaille, it can naturally be easily combined with any of the trails there. It also overlaps quite a lot in the south with trail number 40 (blue) of Aywaille.
Trail number 34 (going in clockwise direction) overlaps in the west (in opposite directions) with red trail of
Sprimont. At a corner in the same area it interconnects nicely also with green trail of
Sprimont. In the north, trail number 34 can also be combined with yellow trail of
Sprimont.
Notes
I was here in early May 2011. Here are pictures from trail number 34.
Most of the loop is on wide dirt track, with only one or two singletrack sections. The second singletrack section was nice and technical. The climbing is steep and long, in particular the beginning is on solid rock with loose stones, very tricky!
Half way through there is a steep dip with loose stones, and then immediately re-conquering of the lost height meters on gravel road.
Signage was excellent.
